Report of PhD defense Masoud Salavati

Titel: Assessing gross motor function, functional skills, and caregiver assistance in children with cerebral palsy (CP) and cerebral visual impairment (CVI)

On June 14th Masoud Salavati has defended his PhD thesis succesfully. The overarching aim of this dissertation was to contribute to the recognition and understanding of the presence of CVI in children with CP and, as a result, to adequate care and support for these children. Being aware of the extent that CVI affects a child with CP at the level of gross motor function, functional skills, and caregiver assistance is important in order to support these children and their parents. This thesis focused especially on: (1) whether and to what degree gross motor function, functional skills, and caregiver assistance in children with CP and CVI differ from those with CP and without CVI; (2) the development of an adapted version of the PEDI-NL and GMFM-88 for children with CP and CVI and determining their reliability; and (3) the development of two CVI Motor Questionnaires (CVI-MQs) for children with CP and determining their validity and usability.
