Sport and social-emotional development of youth

This Phd-project focuses on the possible influence of sports concepts to social-emotional development of youth. Traditionally, there has been much attention devoted to effect research at youth interventions in the Netherlands. However, at the same time there is debate on the role and way to conduct scientific research in the social sector. Context variables should not be excluded as much possible (like experimental designs), but are subject of research. There needs to be a focus on the particular context, on the factors en mechanisms that ‘work’ in sport concepts that (intentionally or not) influence social-emotional development of youth. Here, the research will focus on the role and manner in which youth sport leaders work as well as on the role of different sport contexts (such as organized youth sport, physical education, special education).
