Logopedic approach of Auditory Processing Disorders (APD)

Children with problems in auditory processing may be referred to an Audiological Centre (AC) for further investigation of the auditory skills. Speech –language therapists are called upon to screen young children for the presence of possible auditory processing disorders (APD). However, an inventory study showed that there exists uncertainty about the definition and the opportunities to detect, diagnose and treat auditory processing problems in children.
The aim of this study isto achieve a uniform and workable definition of APD in collaboration with speech-language therapists and research institutes in the Netherlands. This definition will provide the basis for the development of a valid screenings tool for the detection of potential auditory processing problems in children.
